Romaine was born in Butler on May 6, 1924, the daughter of Edward E. and Margaret (Walton) MacDonald.
A graduate of the Butler High School Class of 1941, she earned an associate degree from Westminster College. Romaine was employed as a supervisor in the Business Office of United Telephone Company until her retirement in 1986. Romaine also served as a director of the Bunova Telephone Pioneers Club as its secretary.
Many recall the extra-curricular “Pretty Package” presentations she gave before clubs and organizations on the proper way to wrap gift packages, including a guest appearance on a local television station. A former junior achievement adviser, Romaine assisted high-school age youngsters in the formation of their own companies. She was in contact with many of these students for years following her participation in the program.
Considering service to others as her responsibility, Romaine served in many volunteer capacities and on the boards of various organizations throughout the county. She was one of the few Butlerites who assisted with the “Help Line,” a crisis phone line that existed before Irene Stacy Center was established. As a past member of the Butler County Symphony board of directors, Romaine served as “house manager” and served as chairman of the advertising committee with the symphony organization. In addition, she has provided assistance to the Salvation Army, Providers and the United Way.
Once an active member of several local women's service clubs, Romaine worked on fundraisers for the Soroptimists, Meals on Wheels, the YWCA, and was active in the Butler Intermediate League, Beta Sigma Phi business women's sorority and the former Butler Business and Professional Women's Club.
A faithful and lifelong member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Romaine served as an elder and clerk of sessions on the church board and also taught Sunday School for more than 15 years. After her retirement from United Telephone Company, she filled the position of administrative assistant at the church for many years. Moderator of the Presbyterian Women, she served on the Beaver-Butler Presbytery Council and on the coordinating team for the Beaver-Butler Presbyterian Women.
Romaine is survived by numerous cousins; her extended family, Tom and Debbe Snow; her special friend, Eugene Miller, and her cherished church family at the Covenant Church.
