John T. 'Jack' Harris
John T. “Jack” Harris, 96, of Zelienople passed away on Sunday at the Passavant Retirement Community.
Born on Sept. 1, 1917, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John G. and Myrtle (Gilson) Harris.
Jack was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve who served during World War II from 1941 until 1946, and later served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948 with a bachelor of science degree and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity.
In 1982, he retired as secretary-treasurer from the Pittsburgh Tube Co.
Jack was a member of the English Lutheran Church in Zelienople and belonged to the Reserve Officers Association, the Financial Executive Institute of Pittsburgh, the Avalon Lodge 657 F & AM and the Valley of Pittsburgh Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his three sons, Glenn R. Harris and his wife, Barbara, of Franklin Park, Dale W. Harris and his wife, Mary E., of Renfrew and Dean R. Harris and his wife, Sharon K., of Downingtown, Pa.; and his five grandchildren, Jeremy, John, Dale, Melanie and Jennifer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois A. (Dollhopf) Harris, who he married on April 22, 1949, and who passed away on Sept. 8, 2003, and his sister, Dorothy E. Warner.
HARRIS — The family of John T. “Jack” Harris, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the English Lutheran Church, 200 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. Robert A. Keplinger and the Rev.
