Marmon/Keystone president retiring
The president of Marmon/Keystone in Butler, will retire at the end of March after 46 years in the steel industry.
J.T. “Tim” Spatafore has been with the company since 1973. He became the president in January 2012.
“I’m not sure what I’ll do to be honest,” Spatafore said of his retirement. “I’m looking forward to spending time with my family where it’s warm.”
Spatafore and his wife, Dianna, live in Wexford. They have two children and one grandchild.
Spatafore served a variety of positions during his career with Marmon/Keystone. He started working for it in Georgia as a salesman, before moving up the corporate ladder.
“I’ve relocated with them four times,” Spatafore said. “But we’ve been in Butler the longest. We’ve been here since 1989.”
Spatafore has been a product manager, sales manager, district manager, vice president of purchasing and inventory management, group vice president and executive vice president of branch operations.
He said he was fortunate to work his way up.
“It’s was a combination of hard work and being in the right places at the right time,” he said.
Spatafore also credited his successes to having great mentors.
Alan Wilkinson, the president of Marmon Distribution Services, will oversee Marmon/Keystone’s more than 30 sales and service centers following Spatafore’s retirement March 31.
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce Tim’s retirement,” Wilkinson said in a statement. “I have worked with Tim for over 35 years, and I express my sincere gratitude for his leadership and friendship.”
Spatafore graduated from the Institute of Computer Management in Baltimore and later studied finance at La Roche College in Pittsburgh.
He also attended the MSCI Management Development Institute at Texas A&M.
Marmon/Keystone has been a wholesale distributor of tubular products for more than 100 years. The company has more than 15,000 sizes and grades of carbon, alloy, stainless, and aluminum tubular and bar products.
It has service centers and sales offices throughout the United States.
