Butler Catholic wraps up regular season with win

Butler Catholic’s boys basketball teams completed successful regular seasons Thursday with wins over Blessed Sacrament.

The junior varsity (fifth-grade) polished off a 16-0 section record with a 28-15 victory. Nicolas Maher scored 13 points while Jon Draeger added six and Josiah McConnell four.

The Saints’ varsity unit (seventh-eighth grade) finished 14-2 in section play following a 46-23 victory. Dylan Schaffner and and Jacob Book scored six points each.

Earlier in the week, the JV Saints clinched their section title with a 32-20 win over Hole Sepulcher. Maher scored nine points, Colin Gallagher eight, Nathan Higgins seven, Tom Voelker and Draeger four each.

The varsity defeated St. Gregory of Zelienople, 47-41, in a non-section game as Camden Laconi scored 18 points, Nate Friel adding six points and five rebounds.

Both Butler Catholic teams advance to the playoffs.

The junior varsity hosts a first-round game at 7 p.m. Wednesday ast the Harry Leyland gymnasium. The varsity begins its playoffs next week.
