Butler Catholic is hosting a 3rd-4th grade developmental basketball tournament Friday through March 11.

The tourney features 18 teams from 12 schools. There will be 37 total games played involving three divisions: girls, 3rd grade boys and 4h grade boys.

Participating schools are Butler, Butler Catholic, Karns City, North Allegheny, Knoch, Mt. Lebanon, St. Killian in Cranberry Township, St. Raphael in Monroeville, OLMBS Catholic in Natrona Heights, St. Gregory in Zelienople, Shenango and Ford City.

PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate Olivia Bresnahan scored 10 points, had seven rebounds, four assists and no turnovers Wednesday night in Duquesne's 68-63 women's basketball loss to La Salle at the Palumbo Center.Bresnahan did not start the game, but played 34 minutes for the Dukes (17-11, 9-6).

SLIPPERY ROCK — Erie Cathedral Prep defensive back Marlon Tyree, named last week to the Pennsylvania roster for the Big 33 Game, has joined the Slippery Rock University football program.The 6-foot-2, 188-pound Tyree verbally committed to Mid-American Conference champion Bowling Green in July, but the non-binding offer to him was withdrawn as Falcons coach Dave Clawson left for Wake Forest.Tyree also received scholarship offers from Buffalo, Kent State, Massachusetts, Robert Morris and Temple. He had 61 tackles and an interception last season.

TEMPE, Ariz. — Outfielder Mike Trout and the Angels agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract, a prelude to a long-term deal between the young All-Star and Los Angeles.The salary is the highest for a one-year major league contract for a player not yet eligible for arbitration who wasn't coming to the big leagues from Japan or Cuba or wasn't required to have a larger amount because of the maximum cut rule.Trout will become eligible for arbitration after this season and could become a free agent after the 2017 World Series. The sides are thought to be discussing an agreement through 2020 in the $150 million range.

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — Pitcher Carl Pavano is retiring after 14 major league seasons.The 38-year-old right-hander didn't pitch after June 1 in 2012 because of a strained right shoulder. His spleen was removed in January 2013 after he was injured when he fell in the snow at his home in Vermont.Pavano was 108-107 with a 4.39 ERA in his career.
