KITTANNING — A fast-moving fire late Tuesday night killed one person and injured another at a small house in the borough, authorities said.

Sharon K. Mangus, 54, who lives at the home on Sirwell Street, died in the blaze that started about 11 p.m.

Armstrong County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Bellas pronounced Mangus dead at the scene of smoke inhalation.

Mangus' friend, who was visiting at the house, managed to escape the fire. Authorities did not identify the friend, who was taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township with unknown injuries.

Kittanning, Rayburn, and Kittanning Township volunteer firefighters put out the fire. The state police fire marshal is investigating.

ALLEGHENY COUNTY — The section of Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Butler Valley and Allegheny Valley interchanges will be closed in both directions from 11:59 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday.Drivers should follow detoured routes along Route 8 and Route 28 to bypass the closed section.Alternate route cards will be available to travelers at the two interchanges during the closure.The section between exits 39 and 48 will be closed for bridge beam removal from the bridge that carries Gibsonia Road over the turnpike.
