Church set to host dress sale
CRANBERRY TWP — Shopping for a wedding or prom dress can be time consuming and expensive. But a church in Cranberry Township is hosting a dress sale that may help alleviate some of the shopping stress.
The Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church, 2662 Rochester Road, will host a Say Bless to the Dress Sale and a Second Life Prom Dress Sale, where new and gently worn wedding gowns and prom dresses will be on sale.
The event, which will be held in the upper level of the church, will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29.
The prom dress sale will overlap the wedding dress sale the same day at the church, but will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Other items for sale include bridesmaid and mother of the bride dresses, jewelry, shoes, wraps/shawls, purses/clutches, veils and headpieces.
Nancy MacFarlane, who has been a member of the church for 13 years, said the church received hundreds of prom and wedding dresses from storage of an Ellwood City dress shop that closed in 2006.
“God has given us these dresses and we need to do something good with them,” MacFarlane said.
Admission to the sale is free and dressing rooms will be available on site.
MacFarlane said about 10 seamstresses will be on hand to provide free consultation and make minor alterations to the dresses that range in size from 8 to 18.
Additional parking for the event will be at Haine Elementary School.
The church is accepting donations of new or gently worn dresses and formal accessories for the sale.
Donations can be dropped off at the church office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until March 28.
Wedding dresses will be on sale for $50 and prom dresses will be $20.
MacFarlane said her daughter Ashley was married two years ago and the out-the-door price for her wedding dress was $800.
MacFarlane said proceeds will benefit the church’s mission and outreach program.
