The hotel industry keeps growing in Butler County.
While there have been a number of hotels in the county for years, more have been added in the recent past.
Three are under construction now with another to start this summer. These are being built in the Butler area and Cranberry Township.
Two hotels are going up in Butler Township off New Castle Road, each expected to be open within the next year.An 80-room, four-story Holiday Inn Express is being built at Butler Commons facing North Duffy Road. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in August and it is expected to be open around the end of this year.The Holiday Inn Express will have an indoor swimming pool, a fitness area, and a breakfast area. It will not have a restaurant or bar.A short drive away will be a five-story Hampton Inn at 610 Butler Crossing behind Mikan Motors.Workers broke ground on that hotel, which will have 80 rooms, in January. The developer, Horizon Properties Group of Canonsburg, expects it to welcome its first guests in January 2015.The hotel will feature Hampton Inn's “Perfect Mix Lobby,” which offers seating for both leisure and business travelers as an extension of the guest room.It is expected to employee 20 to 25 workers.
While the township will see an additional two hotels, the city is also set to have its first new hotel in decades.Work on the Marriott Springhill Suites that is part of the Centre City Project is expected to begin in Butler this summer.The hotel joins a new Rite Aid pharmacy and a 225-space parking garage as part of the overall project.The downtown hotel is expected to have 75 to 80 rooms as well as a convention room.J.S. Capitol Construction is the developer of the project, in which the city redevelopment authority will have a 40 percent stake.
A Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites has been operating in Slippery Rock since October 2011.The hotel has 75 rooms and features a meeting room, indoor pool and fitness center. It does not have a restaurant, but breakfast is provided.With a full staff, the hotel employs about 14.
Cranberry has been home to many hotels because of its proximity to Pittsburgh, Interstate 79 and the Turnpike.It is getting a new hotel as Home 2 Suites by Hilton is being built.Home 2 Suites is at 1401 Cranberry Woods Drive. It will be four stories and feature 79 rooms.In the past five years, three other hotels have opened in the township.Courtyard by Marriott at the Cranberry Woods business park opened in December 2012 with 125 rooms.Developed by Winegardner & Hammons of Cincinnati, the facility was the first Courtyard in the area and has a business lobby environment. Along with media pods, Wi-Fi and a variety of seating zones, the space can be used for everything from pop-up meetings to social gatherings.In addition to the standard features, each room has a functional work space, a separate seating area and complimentary high-speed Internet. Sixteen suites offer refrigerators and microwave ovens.The five-story hotel features an indoor swimming pool and outdoor fire pit, fitness center and guest laundry, and 930 square feet of meeting space to accommodate up to 60 people.The Hilton Garden Inn at 2000 Garden View Lane near the township's border with Seven Fields opened in May 2012 with 136 rooms.Located near Westinghouse Electric, the hotel features four large event spaces open to groups and businesses, including a grand ballroom that seats up to 200. In addition, there is an indoor heated pool, a 24-hour business center and a 24-hour convenience store.Each room comes with a 37-inch flat-screen television, free Internet, a microwave and refrigerator.The Candlewood Suites, in Cranberry along Route 19 near the border with Allegheny County, opened in July 2011 with 75 rooms.Candlewood is an extended stay property that caters to business people who are in town for more than a couple days. However, it also offers traditional stays.The hotel has full suites and full kitchens in all of its rooms.
