Edward J. Green Jr.
Edward J. Green Jr., 84, passed away Saturday in Jensen Beach, Fla.
Born on July 18, 1929, in Butler, he was the son of the late Jacob and Estella (Renforth) Green.
For 42 years, Ed worked at Armco Steel before retiring in 1990 as General Foreman of Maintenance. After retiring, Ed wintered in Florida and moved there full time in 2013.
Among his many interests, Ed was a passionate and skilled handyperson and electrician who used his talents to help many people. Ed traveled to Europe and visited all 50 states. He was a huge Steelers fan.
Participating in many clubs, Ed helped start the South Butler Little League Baseball Association and was active with it for many years. Ed was also a member of the Butler County Quarterback Club, a 33-year member of the Elks Lodge 170 and a 54-year member of the American Legion Post 117. Ed started and was president of the Nettles Island Fishing Club for many years and remained on the board in which he was very active. He was also a member of Nettles Island Men's Club and the Musical Theater Group.
Ed was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He married Shirley A. (DeLucenay) Green on Oct. 30, 1954.
Surviving are his wife; his children, Edward E. Green and his wife, Judith, and Barbara J. Green, all of Butler, and Glen R. Green and his partner, Jenny MacBeth, of Pittsburgh; his three grandchildren; his great-grandchild, and his many nieces and nephews in Auburn, Ind., and Butler.
Also surviving are his sisters, Evelyn Gamble and Margaret Friel, and his brother, Robert Green, all of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two other sisters.
Ed was a good man who is deeply loved and admired by his family and friends who will never forget him.
