Frederick Thompson

Frederick E. Thompson, 92, of Newhaven Court in Butler, formerly of Erie, passed away at 8:55 a.m. Monday at VNA Inpatient Hospice.

A son of the late James A. and Ruth A. Sloan Thompson, he was born in Marion Township on April 24, 1921.

He was a graduate of Harrisville High School.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the 363rd Military Police Co., U.S. Army.

He owned and operated Thompson Greens in Harrisville, a wholesale flower business.

It would be an understatement to say Mr. Thompson stayed active. Well into his 80s he was still skiing and golfing. He was the oldest volunteer a Presque Isle State Park, giving pontoon tours. He was a guide on the Flagship Niagara.

He had a keen interest in history, but flying was his passion. Flying for more than 50 years, he had flown more than 40 types of planes. The owner of eight planes, one of which he built, he loved all things aviation. He also co-authored a book about flying. From stunt flying to piloting gliders in his later years, he had many interesting experiences, including piloting the Goodyear Blimp.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Harrisville and the Flagship Niagara League.

On June 30, 1979, he married the former Donnie Mosch, who preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2008.

Surviving are his three daughters, Megan Thompson-Sisinni and her husband, Tim, of Slippery Rock, Melinda “Mindy” Thompson and Rick of Lawrenceburg, Ky., and Lynn Majidimehr and her husband, Amir, of Woodinville, Wash.; his four grandchildren, Julianne Sisinni and David, Ryan and Cameron Majidimehr. Also surviving are his sister, Marlene Davis and her husband, James, of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; his brother, Glenn W. Thompson and his wife, Margie, of Meadville, and several nieces and nephews complete his family.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Donnie, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Thelma Durschlag and Dorothy A. Spence.

Thompson — The friends of Frederick E. Thompson, who passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, will be received at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.Funeral services will be in the funeral home at noon Friday with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey W. Jones, pastor of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, officiating.
