Eugene 'Gene' Cuny Jr.
Eugene “Gene” Cuny Jr., 95, passed away from natural causes April 8 at his home in Long Beach, Calif.
Born on Dec. 29, 1918, in Butler to Eugene Sr. and Leona Cuny, he was the oldest of three children.
He graduated from Butler High School in 1936 and worked for Phillips Oil and Gas before serving his country in World War II as a USAAF bombsight technician in the Pacific theater.
After the war, he and his family moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he worked for the County of Los Angeles Hospital System as a master mechanic for 33 years until he retired in 1976.
Gene met the love of his life, Pauline Roudybush, in high school and the two were married in 1938. They loved dancing, laughing, traveling, and living life. Their family meant everything to them and they enjoyed watching it grow over the years. They had a loving and wonderful marriage that spanned 66 years until Pauline's passing in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Cuny; his sister, Grace Cuny Timmerman, and his brother, Ben Cuny.
Gene is survived by his four sons, Joe, Jim (Liz), John (Sheri), and Jeff (Gwynne); his daughter, Janelle (Dan) Cardiel; his 11 grandchildren, and his 11 great-grandchildren.
He was a great man, dad and granddad and he will be forever missed.
