Michelle A. Schnur
Michelle A. Schnur, 53, of Butler passed into the loving arms of her heavenly father at the VNA Inpatient Hospice Saturday.
Born on Nov. 1, 1960, she was the daughter of Donna (Boulanger) Schnur and the late Donald J. Schnur.
Michelle graduated from Butler Area High School in 1978 and received her degree from Butler County Community College.
Over the years, she worked at ServiStar, Irene Stacy Mental Health Center, Mental Health Association and Butler County Blind Association.
She was a member of the Graceway Community Church.
She was widely known for her amazing cakes, which she lovingly bestowed on family and friends for each birthday, anniversary and special occasion. Michelle loved and cared for her friends and family above all other things. She was the first to help those in need and was a friend to all she met. During her six-year journey with cancer, she embraced every setback with courage and grace and never allowed anything to interfere with her positive outlook on life. She was determined to continue to serve others while she was undergoing treatment. No matter how difficult her situation, she never lost sight of others in need. She was a role model to all who knew her.
She co-founded the Friends and Families of Inmates Support Group and advocated for healthy food and other basic prisoner's rights. She brought the “Christmas Stockings for Cancer Patients” program to UPMC Oncology at Butler Health System while she herself was undergoing treatment.
She was the loving mother of Justin Schnur of Mercer and Damon Schnur of Columbus, Ohio.
In addition to her mother, she is also survived by her sister, Theresa (Randy) Mortimer; her brothers, Jody and Kevin Schnur of Butler; and her many beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
