Rita Joan Twerdok, 81, of Butler passed away Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.

Born on Oct. 12, 1932, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Leaudra Rose Miller and Leo Evans.

She was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler where she served on the Women's Council. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club. She had many hobbies including drawing, painting, cooking, dancing, and bowling. She was an animal lover and always had a pet cat. She had a green thumb and loved to grow beautiful house plants.

Surviving are her three sons, Larry Twerdok of Silver Spring, Md., Thomas Twerdok of Pittsburgh, and Gregory Twerdok of Landenberg; her two brothers, Patrick and John Evans, both of Butler; her two sisters, Theresa Ligus and Anna Franchuk, also of Butler; her nine grandchildren, and her two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Twerdok, who passed away in 1983, and her sister, Pauline Chepelsky.

Twerdok — The friends of Rita Joan Twerdok, who passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today.A blessing service will follow at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
