Flooding still closes part of Route 38
A section of Route 38 remained closed Wednesday afternoon due to flooding from the overnight storm.
The state Department of Transportation closed the road north of its intersection with Route 68 in Summit Township up into Oakland Township.
“It’s flooded in multiple locations,” said Mike Mattis, an assistant manager with PennDOT in Butler County. “Water is still coming up along the creek.”
Mattis said he received his first report of flooding about 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The route follows the Connoquenessing Creek and intersects with some of its tributaries.
Mattis hopes the break in rain will allow the water level to drop soon, but he didn't have a time frame of when the road may reopen.
It’s not the first time the road has flooded.
“Anytime there is a big storm, there is some flooding along the road,” Mattis said. “It runs so close to the creek.”
Mattis said there is little PennDOT crews can do about the flooding.
“We can just sit and wait for the water to go down,” he said.
