David Clarence Ellis

David Clarence Ellis, 74, of Butler passed away at 10:34 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1939, in New Castle to the late Edwin Lumley Ellis and Floretta Mae (Pollock) Ellis.

David was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a specialist 4 in the Philippines.

David went on to earn his bachelor's degree at Slippery Rock University and earned three master's degrees from both Slippery Rock University and Westminster College.

David worked as a social studies teacher and guidance counselor at Slippery Rock High School, retiring in 1999 with 35 years of service.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, Chisel and Chips Carvers of North Pittsburgh, Conewago Carvers, the Slippery Rock American Legion, the Moraine Sportsman's Club, PASR, and the Butler County Association of School Retirees. David was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, woodcarving, camping and boating.

David is survived by his wife, Janet Lucille (DeCorte) Ellis, who he married on Dec. 28, 1963; his two sons, Dr. Brian David Ellis and his wife, Lisa, of Morgantown, W.Va., and Michael Andrew Ellis and his wife, Patti, of Imperial; and his two grandchildren, Jeremy Andrew Ellis and Sydni Lois Ellis, both of Imperial.

Ellis — The friends of David Clarence Ellis, who passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. A blessing service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Burial will take place in the Calvary Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, P.O.
