Ruth Ann 'Charli' Gilmore

Ruth Ann “Charli” Gilmore, 71, of Aspen Road, Petrolia, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Charli was born on the North Side of Pittsburgh on Aug. 31, 1942. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Ruth Ann Kemege Benesh.

She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora and the Ladies Auxiliary to the American Legion in West Sunbury. She enjoyed fishing and the company of her parrot Waylon and her dog Baxter.

Charli and her late husband were among the original members of the Valley Dam Sportsman and Snowmobile Association of Ridgeville. She and her late husband also owned and operated D W Enterprises in Petrolia.

Mrs. Gilmore was married on June 11, 1960, to Donald E. Gilmore. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2004.

Charli is survived by a son, Donald E. Gilmore Jr. of Baton Rouge, La., and two daughters, Maria Ray and her husband Barry “Buzz” of Petrolia and Marlene “Marty” Pope and her husband Kent of West Sunbury; a brother, John Benesh and his wife Lane of Atlanta, Ga.; an aunt, Pat Kemege of Bruin; three grandchildren, Nicole Gaudin of Baton Rouge, La., Tricia Gilmore of Pittsburgh, and Chase Hunter Pope of West Sunbury; five great grandchildren, as well as a niece, a nephew and a number of cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her long time companion, John P. “Rick” Sullivan, who died Sept. 2, 2011.

Gilmore — The friends of Ruth Ann “Charli” Gilmore, who passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St. Karns City, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St. Chicora, with the Rev. James R. Orr, church administrator, celebrant.
