Sylvia Lee Johnston
Sylvia Lee Johnston, 78, of Palm Harbor, Fla., formerly of Zelienople, passed away May 25 at the Hershey Medical Center.
Sylvia was born on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1936, in Zelienople to the late Loyal Lloyd Johnston and Emma Leona Heberling.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her siblings, Loyal Lloyd Johnston Jr., Velma Johnston Capots and Marian Johnston Weigel, and her niece, Beth Weigel Grawburg.
Sylvia's survivors include her nephews and nieces, Ron Weigel and his wife, Linda, of Mechanicsburg, Larry Johnston and his wife, Sandi, of Vinton, Va., Harriet Benny and her husband, Jim, of Eighty Four, Polly Capots of McMurray, Eric Capots and his wife, Erin, of Darlington and Jackie Hoenie and her husband, Greg, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her sister-in-law, Anne Johnston of Eighty Four; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Sylvia graduated from Zelienople High School in the Class of 1954 and from Slippery Rock State University with a degree in elementary education, and she received her master's in education from Pennsylvania State University.
She retired from the North Hills School District in Pittsburgh after more than 30 years of service as an elementary school teacher.
Sylvia was a member of the English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zelienople. After her move to Florida, she became a member of the Palm Harbor United Methodist Church.
