Leonard F. “ Len” Heasley, 93, of St. Paul's Continuing Care, West Salem Township, Greenville, formerly of Pine Hollow Boulevard, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's after an extended illness.

Mr. Heasley was born in Great Belt, Butler County, on June 10, 1920, and raised in Herman, Butler County, the son of the late Samuel and Clara (McClafferty) Heasley.

He served in the U.S. Army as a technician 5th Grade with the 6999 Emergency Battalion in England, France and Germany during World War II.

Len worked as a craneman at the former Sharon Steel in Farrell for almost 35 years, retiring in 1982.

While living in Hermitage, he was a member of the St. Joseph's Church in Sharon. While living at St. Paul's, he received communion from St. Michael's Church in Greenville.

He was a member of the Butler VFW Post 249 and a life member of the Summit Township Sportsman Club of Butler County, the NRA and the Gun Owners of America Association. Len enjoyed gardening, training his dogs and spending time with his family, especially at picnics.

He married the love of his life, Loretta A. “Ret” (Miller) Heasley, on Aug. 16, 1951. She died on Dec. 17, 2008.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, along with their families.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Walter, Daniel, George, and Raymond Heasley.

Heasley— The friends of Leonard F. “ Len” Heasley, who passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014, are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at theHarold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State St., Sharon.The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Glenn Whitman of the St. Joseph's Church in Sharon officiating. Burial will be at Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors presented by the Hickory VFW Post 6166 Honor Guard.Condolences to the family may be expressed by visiting stevensonfuneralhome.net.
