Earl Lynn Eakin, 88, of New Castle passed away Thursday afternoon at VA Butler Healthcare.

Born June 5, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of Earl P. and Marian J. Hoover Eakin.

He was preceded in death on Sept. 13, 2007, by his wife of 59 years, Ardes Olivia Muller Eakin, who he married April 4, 1948.

After attending the New Castle public schools, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the European, Asiatic and Pacific Theaters. He served on board the USS Yorktown as a seaman first class.

Earl was employed with North American Rockwell-Rockwell International as a machine operator for 27 years, retiring in October of 1976. He also served as a deputy sheriff in Butler County.

He was a member of the American Legion Perry Gaston Post 343 and the Castlewood Rod and Gun Club.

Earl enjoyed the outdoors as well as hunting and fishing.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Earl is survived by his brother, Wayne R. Eakin of New Castle, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Elsie M. Houston.

EAKIN — Visitation for Earl Lynn Eakin, who died Thursday, June 12, 2014, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and will be officiated by the Rev. Richard Helsel. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
