Catherine Johnston

A dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Catherine M. “Sis” Johnston, 90, of Evans City, formerly of Butler, passed into God’s hands Monday.

Catherine was a wonderful example of faith and selflessness, and was a true friend to many.

She was born on May 11, 1924, to the late Harold and Genevieve Osche Peters.

Catherine had one brother and two sisters, all of who preceded her in death. She was the faithful wife of the late William Albert “Bing” Johnston Sr., who passed away on June 18, 2005.

She enjoyed racing horses with her husband and passed their love of harness racing onto their children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jacqueline Zielinski, Debra Schoeffel and her husband, Thomas, and Tracy Chropek and her husband, Paul; her son, Gary Johnston; her eight grandchildren, Catherine, Kimberly, Darren, Kelly, Kasey, Aaron, Shawn, and Paul; her eight great-grandchildren, Derrick, Cody, Jordan, Kennedy, Samantha, Rian, Kaydence “Babydoll,” and Laurie.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her son, William Johnston Jr., who passed away on April 2, 1994; her brother, and her two sisters.
