Robert J. 'Bob' McIntyre

Robert J. 'Bob' McIntyre

Robert J. “Bob” McIntyre, 68, of DeMotte, Ind., formerly of Chicora, passed away unexpectedly Sunday at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago, Ill., with his family by his side.

He was born in Hillville, Perry Township, Armstrong County, on March 30, 1946, the son of the late Guy McIntyre and Dorothy Barger Crissman.

Bob was born at home in Hillville and grew up along the banks of the Allegheny River. He was a graduate of Karns City High School.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and honorably served his country aboard the USS Hermitage during the Vietnam War when he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Bob was employed as a HAZMAT driver for Praxair for many years in both Pennsylvania and Indiana before retiring. He then worked for Teamsters Local 142 and most recently was the head of security for NIPSCO.

Bob was a man of the outdoors and enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, fishing and boating. He would proudly tell you that at age 60 he could still slalom water ski. Even after moving to Indiana, he looked forward to Pennsylvania hunting season with his son and fishing trips with his friends on the Great Lakes. He was also a great cook and could whip up a meal in minutes with whatever he would find in the kitchen. Bob had a personality that could fill a room. A jokester at heart, he always had a wise crack to make you laugh. He will best be remembered for his zest for life and love of his family and his country.

He will be sadly missed by his son, Robert McIntyre Jr. and his fiancee, Sondra Foster, of Fenelton; his daughters, Deana Turner and her husband, John, of Chicora and Jennifer McIntyre of Portage, Ind.; his wife, Flora “Flo” McIntyre of DeMotte, Ind.; his three stepchildren, Valerie King and her husband, Chuck, Adam Lacefield and his wife, Lisa, and Angelica Lacefield; his five grandchildren, Luke Gordon, Kiley McIntyre, Kortlynn Atherton and Sydney and Peyton Turner; his four stepgrandchildren; his great-grandchild, Myah Atherton; his sister, Judy Wright and her husband, Martin, of Parker; his brothers, David McIntyre of Cummings, Ga., and Dale McIntyre and his wife, Kay, of Punxsutawney; and his numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Charles McIntyre.
