Nesbit wants to learn ropes, solve problems
Tedd Nesbit hasn’t officially been elected to the State House of Representatives to represent the 8th District.
However, Nesbit, 47, of Grove City has no Democratic opponent in the Nov. 4 general election. In the May Republican primary, he beat out Herman Bauer of Franklin Township and Jeff Black of Grove City. He will replace retiring state Rep. Dick Stevenson.
He said the first thing he wants to do once he gets to Harrisburg is learn how to do the job.
“The plan is to spend the first year listening more rather than talking,” Nesbit said.
Past that, he said his number one priority is economic development in the district. He said there are state budget issues, and he wants to see if they can be resolved without raising taxes. However, he said he cannot say for sure if he would not raise taxes, since no one knows what will happen in the future.
Education is another issue he wants to work on.
“Obviously, education is always important,” Nesbit said.
He said the state needs to create an education system for the future and for jobs that are available. This includes vocational and technical training, and training for the natural gas industry.
He said he hopes to have constituent services available in Butler County. He said his current plan is to have office hours somewhere in the county, as long as it is financially feasible.
“I want to make sure Butler is being taken care of,” Nesbit said.
He said he wants to help make sure Republicans and Democrats work together to solve problems. As an outsider to the system, he said he sees a lot of hostility between the two parties. However, he noted that he would be representing a legislative district that contains people of many parties and beliefs, so cooperation is important.
“I think the people want that,” Nesbit said.
Nesbit is an assistant district attorney in Mercer County and a partner in the law firm Bartholomew, Mudrinich and Nesbit, which has offices in Grove City and Hermitage.
Nesbit and his wife, Shannon, have four children.
The 8th District covers Brady, Center, Cherry, Clay, Franklin, Marion, Mercer, Muddy Creek and Worth townships as well as Harrisville, Portersville, West Liberty and West Sunbury in Butler County. The district also covers most of southwestern Mercer County.
