4-H'ers, volunteers recognized at banquet
Butler County 4-H members and volunteers were recognized at the organization’s annual achievement banquet, held Nov. 3 at the General Butler Vagabond Center in Lyndora.
Andrew Costel of Butler, Elizabeth Greiner of Tarentum and Sara Lang of Harrisville were named the Outstanding Junior, Intermediate and Senior 4-H members, respectively.
Andrew, 12, is the son of Gary and Melisa Costel; Elizabeth, 15, is the daughter of Ron and Carol Greiner; and Sara, 18, is the daughter of Larry and Carrie Lang.
The Big Butler Fair board of directors was named the Friend of 4-H, an award given to a community member or business that supports the county program. The board members support the county youth program during the fair with awards, activities, shows and a petting zoo.
Nearly 30 members received outstanding project awards. They were:

AgChoice Farm Credit and the Pomona Grange also sponsored project awards, and Butler County Farm Bureau sponsored the Blue Ribbon Club award that went to the Caprine Connection.
Two individual 4-H’ers put together scrapbooks, and first place was Shirlann Harmon and second was Larissa Edinboro.
Six clubs also submitted scrapbooks, with the West Sunbury Wranglers getting first place.
Butler County has more than 70 volunteers who serve as club leaders and helpers. Those reaching milestones were recognized at the banquet.

Five-year leaders — Amanda Dillaman, Ashley Foertsch, Jeffery Frazier and Michelle Henry
10-year leaders — James and Karen Dillaman and James and Denise Foertsch
30-year leader — Connie Haswell
Butler County has more than 330 4-H members participating in nearly 30 different clubs, plus several afterschool 4-H programs.
