John Ronald Winters

John Ronald Winters, 75, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., formerly of Butler, passed away Oct. 15 at the Bay Tree Nursing Home, Palm Harbor, Fla.

Born on March 19, 1939, in Butler, he was a son of the late John E. Winters and Genevieve Sheppeck Winters.

Mr. Winters was a fifth generation, well-known stonemason.

He graduated from Penn Township High School in 1957 and had served in the U.S. Army, which included a tour of duty in Germany.

After 25 years at the Pullman Standard Car Co. in Butler, he retired in 1982. He was an active sportsman, a deputy game protector for 16 years with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, a life member of the NRA, and a former member of the Christ Community United Methodist Church, where he was also a trustee and an usher. Currently he was a member of the Palm Harbor Methodist Church in Florida.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Yarger Winters, who he married on April 11, 1966; his son, Joel Rohn (Cynthia Joy) Winters; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Joy Winters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Ralph, Richard and Rodney.

Winters— The friends of John Ronald Winters, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at theGeibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating.
