Martha Adele Lyons
Martha Adele Lyons, 97, passed away at 3:02 a.m. Sunday at Orchard Manor, Grove City.
Martha was born on Nov. 18, 1916, in Grove City to the late Daniel C. and Leona King Aylsworth.
Martha married Dr. A.J. Lyons on June 24, 1969, and he passed away in 1982.
Martha was a graduate of Grove City High School and Grove City College, Class of 1937. Martha took extra studies at the University of Pittsburgh, Slippery Rock University and the New Wilmington College.
Martha taught second grade in the former Lincoln School for 37 years.
She was a life member of the Mercer County and Pennsylvania State Education Associations and the National Teachers Association. Her first years of teaching were in Washington Township Junior High, Westmoreland County.
Martha was a Presbyterian and attended the Center Presbyterian Church, Grove City.
She was a life member of 63 years of the Grove City Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron twice. She served the Pennsylvania Grand Chapter as district deputy of District 2, Grand Marshal of Pennsylvania, Grand Representative of Wyoming and on various other Grand Chapter committees. She was also very active in her local chapter.
Martha was a Past Worth High Priestess of Grove City Shrine 56. She was a Chapter member of Amarant Royal Chapter 17 of Winston Salem-North Carolina.
Survivors include her niece, Linda Longwell Miller of Grove City; her niece, Kimberly Hale and her husband, Ronald, and their daughter, Paidyn; her nephew, Brian D. Miller and his daughter, Courtney, of Grove City; and her stepdaughter, Cathie Lyons.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by her sister, Annabelle Miller and her husband, Howard; and her nephew, Donald A. Miller.
Lyons— The friends and family of Martha Adele Lyons, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, will be received from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at theCunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, with the Pastor Evelyn Beebe officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Grove City.Memorial donations can be made to Paralyzed Veterans at Deshon VA Hospital, 325 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001.
