Robert Joseph 'Bob' Bergbigler

Robert Joseph “Bob” Bergbigler, 90, of Fenelton passed away Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1924, in Clearfield Township to the late William Bergbigler and Rose Gable Bergbigler.

Mr. Bergbigler retired as a welder from Pullman Standard.

He was veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a corporal in the Troop C, 36th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized, in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns during World War II. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon for his service.

Mr. Bergbigler was a member of the American Legion Post 117 and a lifetime member of the East Butler Firehall. He enjoyed playing cards, talking and being a handyman.

Mr. Bergbigler is survived by his three sons, Robert E. Bergbigler of Butler, James D. Bergbigler and his wife, Pat, of Butler and Calvin J. Bergbigler of Butler; his two daughters, Phyllis Smock of Fenelton and Diana Oesterling and her husband, Ralph, of Butler; his 13 grandchildren, Bob, Billy, Ashley, Tracy, Lisa, Joe, Mike, Dana, Korinna, Melanie, Starr, Amie and Kellie; his 27 great-grandchildren; his four great-great-grandchildren; and his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Weidenhof) Bergbigler, who he married on Oct. 23, 1947, and who passed away on Feb. 12, 1987; his three brothers, Chuck, Dave and Floyd Bergbigler; and his son-in-law, Bill Smock.

Bergbigler — The friends of Robert Joseph “Bob” Bergbigler, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Pastor Paul Rihel of Christ Community Chapel officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
