Herman E. Dillner
Herman E. Dillner, 93, of West Deer passed away Monday.
Born on May 4, 1921, in Gibsonia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irene Bonin Dillner.
He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Dorothy (Patton) Dillner; loving father of Herman E. (Joy) Dillner Jr. of Pymatuning, Betty Jane (John) Burke of Florida, Mark E. (Marcie) Dillner of Bairdford, and Marrene (Charles) Mechler of Tarentum; brother of Hazel Mink of Dorseyville, Earl Dillner of Butler, Howard Dillner of Gibsonia, and the late Harry Dillner, Elmer (Jean) Dillner and Ruth Black. Also surviving are six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
A U.S. Army World War II veteran, Herman served in an infantry division in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland, Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, and Freedom Award, given by the French government.
Herman went on to work for more than 33 years at the Gulf Research Facility in Harmar as a painter.
He was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Dorseyville, where he served on the property and cemetery committees.
Herman was a longtime member of the West Deer VFW and enjoyed gardening, playing cards and working on his five tractors.
Dillner — The family of Herman E. Dillner, who passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Schellhaas Funeral Home, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Trinity United Church of Christ, Dorseyville.
