Howard Michael 'Boot' Shoup Jr.

Howard Michael “Boot” Shoup Jr., 85, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away Thursday in Florida.

He was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Evans City to the late Howard M. Shoup Sr. and Altha Bradley Shoup.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Ann Graham Shoup; his oldest son, Michael James Shoup; and his sister, Altha Shoup.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Moffitt Shoup; four children, Mary (Jeff) Hughes, Jo Lynn (the late Kevin) Smith, Kurt (Linda) Shoup, and Barbara (Robert) Pieniazek; 14 wonderful grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Sara Bergmann; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard worked for Weirton Steel.

He was a member of the Freemasons and Grace Lutheran Church in Steubenville, Ohio.

He also was proud to have been a medical corpsman in the U.S. Navy.

“Mr. Wonderful,” as he was known to all who loved him, will be greatly missed.
