A crowd of about 60 people attended the second annual Blessing of the Waters on Sunday at Bear Run Launch on the south shore of Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park. Pastors from SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church and St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Lyndora and St. Anthony Orthodox Church in Butler and nuns from the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Ellwood City took part, according to the Rev. Bogdan Bucur of St. Anthony. He said the blessing is one of the most important traditions of the Orthodox faith, representing the feast of Epiphany when Jesus was baptized. At the end of the ceremony, an ice cross was thrown onto the frozen surface of the lake.
