Kenneth L. Collier Sr.
Kenneth L. Collier Sr., 88, of Chicora passed away at 8:57 a.m. Friday in Elmcroft Personal Care Home, Saxonburg.
Born on Dec. 1, 1926, in Chicora, he was the son of the late Floyd L. Collier and Alice Young Collier.
Kenneth proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from March 10, 1945, to Oct. 19, 1946, in the 63rd Field Artillery Battalion, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Chicora American Legion.
He worked 34 years as a truck driver for the Dunmyre Trucking Co. in Chicora.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora and a charter member of the Buco Trailer Club and the Good Time Ramblers of Butler County.
He married Jean Louise Dunmyre Collier on Dec. 13, 1944. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2001.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth L. (Nancy) Collier Jr. of Butler; his daughters, Georgine (Gary) Christie of Chicora and Shelby Jean (Robert) Ross of Saxonburg; his eight grandchildren, Travis, Bradley and Troy Christie, Tiffany Valentino, Brian Collier, and Bobby, Kenny and Jennifer Ross; his 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Stella Collier and Mary Hillwig.
Collier — The friends of Kenneth L. Collier Sr., who passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.Additional visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, pastor, officiating.
