Marburger seeks 5th term as treasurer

Butler County Treasurer Diane Marburger is seeking a fifth term.

Marburger, 57, of Adams Township wants to continue improving the efficiency of her office.

“I like to keep it moving forward,” she said.

When Marburger took office in 2000, there were computers, but the county wasn’t taking advantage of new technology.

“We didn’t have Internet access,” she said. “We didn’t have e-mail. We didn’t have connectivity in the courthouse.”

Marburger said accessing the Internet was vital because her office works with state offices that were already on the Web, such as the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Her office was the first one in the county to have a Web page.

“It just started from there,” Marburger said.

During her tenure, the treasurer’s office started offering online tax payments and dog license sales, started making direct deposits to municipalities and school districts and began accepting credit card payments.

The treasurer’s office administers the county hotel bed tax as well as collecting county and municipal property taxes for Valencia, West Sunbury and Callery.

Marburger is on the county retirement board.

She is working with county Controller Ben Holland to update the county investment policy.

Marburger has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana (Pa.) University and is a 1975 graduate of Mars High School.

She earned a Certified Treasury Professional credential in 2012 from the Association of Financial Professionals and is a 2009 graduate of the Anne B. Anstine Excellence in Public Service program.

Marburger lives in the township with her husband, Gordon, and their two grown children.
