Rita Mae Schweiger

Rita Mae Schweiger, 83, of Cranberry Township passed away Wednesday.

Born on Oct. 11, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Rita was the daughter of the late Paul J. and Genevieve A. Barnett Miller.

Rita was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lovi. Her humanitarian nature was displayed through her work at Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople and later St. John's Specialty Care in Mars and Cranberry Place where she was a nurse's aid, physical therapist and recreational director.

Rita had a profound love for her dog, Penny. Above all, her children will remember her as an amazing Mom who enjoyed helping others, putting their needs before her own.

Rita is survived by her six children, Margie L. (Brent) Gettings of Raleigh, N.C., Gary S. Schweiger of Cranberry Township, Thomas B. Schweiger Jr. of Cranberry Township, Rick B. Schweiger of Ellwood City, Tammy R. Schweiger of Ellwood City and Terry A. Schweiger of McCandless Township; her 11 grandchildren; her 10 great-grandchildren; and her faithful companion, Penny.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas B. Schweiger, and her two children, Randy Schweiger and Glenn Schremmer.

Schweiger — The friends of Rita Mae Schweiger, who passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lovi, 1001 Freedom Road, Cranberry Township, with the Rev.
