Hurt snowmobiler calls on cell phone for help
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A man injured in a snowmobiling accident Tuesday afternoon was able to call 911 on his cell phone and guide rescuers to his location in some trees.
Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company Chief Ken Taggart said, despite the warmer weather, there still was about a foot of snow in the area near Forrester Road where the 39-year-old man was riding between 1 and 2 p.m.
His identity was not immediately available
It was not immediately known if the man hit something or incurred some other accident to cause his injuries. However, he was conscious and used his own cell phone to call for help and guide the firefighters to his location in some trees near a field.
The firefighters used a brush truck and a neighbor’s Gator-style utility vehicle to rescue the man and keep him stable until a medical helicopter arrived to fly him to a Pittsburgh hospital.
