Woman charged in attack

Police say she stabbed man after argument

CRANBERRY TWP — A 50-year-old township woman was arrested Wednesday stemming from a weekend stabbing that left her boyfriend with a minor facial injury.

Karen L. Mahoney faces a hearing next week on felony assault and other charges in the altercation shortly before 10 p.m. at the couple’s home in Cottonwood Court.

A 911 call sent Cranberry police to the house where they found the defendant and alleged victim, William Davidson.

Officers noticed Davidson, 62, was holding a bloody napkin to his left cheek, court documents said.

He told police that he and Mahoney had gotten into an argument earlier that night. She accused him of being unfaithful, Davidson said.

Later, while he sat on a recliner watching television in the living room, he recounted that the defendant came from the kitchen and stabbed him in the cheek, document said.

“Davidson stated Mahoney told him, ‘I will kill you tonight,’” a police affidavit said.

Officers found a 12-inch kitchen knife with a wooden handle on the floor near the recliner where Davidson was seated.

The knife had a small amount of blood on the tip, police said. Davidson refused medical treatment.

Mahoney, who appeared intoxicated, denied injuring her boyfriend, police said. When officers tried to place her in handcuffs, they said she briefly resisted.

Following her arrest, she underwent a mental health evaluation at a hospital before being returned to police custody.

District Judge Sue Haggerty on Wednesday arraigned Mahoney on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment.

She was released on $10,000 unsecured bail after arrangements were made for her to live with one of her daughters pending resolution of the criminal case.

Haggerty also ordered Mahoney to have no contact with Davidson as part of the defendant’s bail conditions. Her preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 20 at District Judge Dave Kovach’s office in Cranberry.
