Grace L. Shearer

Grace L. Shearer, 83, of Schererville, Ind., formerly of Butler, passed away Monday in Indiana.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1931, in Butler, the daughter of the late Blaine W. Shearer and Lois Kennedy Shearer.

Grace was a deaconess and active in many areas of the Oak Hills Christian Church.

She graduated from Lock Haven University with a teaching degree in 1953. She retired from the Butler School System after more than 30 years of service, mostly working at Emily Brittain Elementary.

Grace was a member of N.E.A., Butler E.A. (retired) and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 45, and a life member of P.S.E.A. and Tri-Sigma Sorority. She enjoyed baking, needlepoint and quilting.

Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Louise Crawford of Schererville, Ind.; her four brothers, Donald B. (Edna) Shearer and Robert W. (Nancy) Shearer, both of Butler, James K. (Carol) Shearer of Prospect, and Richard L. (Cathy) Shearer of Evansville, Ind., and her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three nephews; her great-nephew; and her brother-in-law, Robert Crawford.

Shearer — The friends of Grace L. Shearer, who passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Monday at theYoung Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Pastor Gary Brown of the St. John's Lutheran Church officiating.
