Pair arrested for stealing from church

Butler police believe they know who broke into a city church three weeks ago and made off with a flat-screen television and canned goods.

Police this week charged Brandon J. Gurowski, 22, of Worth Township and Lindsay N. Maples, 28, of Mercer Township with the Jan. 31 burglary of St. Paul’s Church on North McKean Street.

But that was only the couple’s first crime, investigators said.

Police believe after the church break-in, the suspects hid the loot. They then allegedly stole a pickup truck in the city that was used to haul away the stolen property.

Investigators on Wednesday arrested Gurowski and obtained an arrest warrant for Maples. The suspects both admitted to the crimes, according to court documents.

Both defendants are charged with burglary, conspiracy, theft and criminal mischief for the church break-in, and theft and conspiracy for allegedly stealing the pickup.

Police did not have to look far to find Gurowski. He’s been in the Butler County Prison since Feb. 9, when state police arrested him for another burglary on Feb. 5 in Franklin Township.

In that he stole his friend’s Xbox video game console, according to troopers.
