KC sophomore 'very well liked'
KARNS CITY — Briggs Buck, 16, of Chicora was a sophomore at Karns City High School. He was a weightlifter and on the varsity football and track teams.
He died Friday night in an ATV accident in Fairview Township.
“He was very well liked by the students and the staff,” said Eric Ritzert, superintendent. “Just an all-around good kid. Definitely our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
The driver of the ATV, who Ritzert identified as another sophomore, Elijah Myers, 16, was involved with the same activities as Buck: football, track and weightlifting.
“They were friends, which makes this even harder for everyone to deal with because both boys spent a lot of time together,” Ritzert said.
A grief counselor from the Center for Community Resources will be at the high school for students and staff.
This is not the first time that a deadly ATV accident has impacted the district recently. In September, a 2004 Karns City graduate, Jeremy Slaugenhoup, died while on an ATV.
“It’s evidence we need to be more cautious on how they’re utilized,” Ritzert said.
Viewing for Briggs Buck will be from 2 p.m. to the time of funeral services at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora.
The Young Funeral Home, West Sunbury, is handling the arrangements.
