City park authority sells its share in BlueSox

The majority ownership group of the Butler BlueSox now controls 100 percent of the baseball team.

The Prospect League board voted Tuesday night to approve the sale of the 40 percent share previously owned by the city Parks, Recreation Grounds and Facilities Authority to Perfect Game LLC for $40,000.

Perfect Game, LLC is a partnership comprised of Butler County businessmen Matt Clement, Mike Fiorina, Gordon Marburger, Roger Snodgrass, William “Wink” Robinson and Larry Sassone, according to a release by the league.

The city authority had been attempting to sell its 40 percent share of the team since 2013. It originally reached a deal to sell the club for $40,000 to the Nonprofit Development Corporation of Butler in December of that year, but the league rejected the deal.

Perfect Game LLC opposed that sale, claiming it had first right of refusal to buy the remaining share.

The authority then put the share out to bid last year and received two offers in December — the $40,000 bid from the majority group and a $60,000 offer from U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd, of Butler.

The authority accepted Kelly's offer, dependent on league approval, but the congressman withdrew his bid in February for unknown reasons.

At that time the authority board accepted the majority group's proposal.

Kelly Automotive Park will host the home opener for the team May 29.
