Butler Police

Monday — Jeffrey W. Nadiak, 26, no known address, was arrested on a pair of unrelated cases for trespass and theft.

City officers nabbed Nadiak a day after he showed up at a county-owned property where he had previously been banned.

Police said they were notified after the defendant was caught about 6:35 p.m. Sunday at an apartment building in the 300 block of South Main Street, owned by the Butler County Housing Authority.

An authority official told police that the suspect was advised Jan. 20 that he was not permitted on any of the agency properties, court documents said. Following a search, officers spotted Nadiak at Diamond Park but he ran away.

He was subsequently arrested and arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of trespass.

Nadiak also was arraigned on a separate charge of misdemeanor theft after allegedly stealing a wallet from a woman’s purse last week at a downtown restaurant.

Cassie Pauley, in that case, told police that on March 10 she and the defendant went to the Element Cafe on South Main Street. While she was briefly away from their table, according to court documents, Nadiak took the wallet from her purse, which had about $60 inside.

Nadiak was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.

10:06 p.m. Sunday — Angela C. Hempfling, 33, of Center Township was arrested after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Eric Kradel, during a domestic dispute at his home on Morton Avenue.

The dispute apparently began over a cell phone and escalated, court documents said.

Kradel told police that Hempfling grabbed him by the back of his head and slammed his forehead into a screen door.

The alleged attack left Kradel with a cut above the left eye that required treatment at Butler Memorial Hospital. He received stitches to close the cut, documents said.

Hempfling was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,500 bail.

6:49 p.m. Saturday — Jason A. Green, 40, of Butler was nearly three times over the legal limit for alcohol, police said, when he backed his car into another vehicle parked outside a home in the 300 block of North McKean Street.

The owner of the other vehicle notified police after he exchanged insurance information with Green and believed the suspect was “extremely intoxicated,” according to court documents.

Officers got there and soon had similar suspicions.

But Green claimed he’d had only three drinks.

Police arrested him after he was unable to perform field sobriety tests due to his condition.

A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol was 0.236 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Green is charged with driving under the influence and improperly backing up a vehicle.

Butler Township Police

Both defendants are charged with two counts each of the theft by deception and conspiracy.

1:50 p.m. March 11 — An unknown motorist changing lanes forced Lili Gao, 26, of Pittsburgh to crash the car she was driving on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township.

Gao was northbound when the other driver crossed into her lane, forcing her to veer into a guardrail. The driver of the other vehicle, described as a silver Chevrolet, did not stop. Gao’s car had to be towed.

1:45 a.m. March 8 — A Seven Fields man was allegedly drunk when he was caught traveling 110 mph on Route 228 in Adams Township, police said.

Police were initially unable to catch up to the suspect, 29-year-old Colin M. Zedreck, who was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz 300 sedan. But a trooper in another cruiser assisted in pulling over Zedreck on West Beaver Street Extension just before Scharberry Lane.

Troopers said they smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from the suspect, according to court documents. But Zedreck claimed he had nothing to drink that evening.

A preliminary breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.20 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

But when police asked Zedreck to provide another breath sample at the barracks, he refused, according to documents. He is charged with driving under the influence, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.
