Firefighters quickly knock down dryerfire
A clothes dryer Saturday night caught fire, possibly from a buildup of lint in the vent pipe, in the basement of an apartment building in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue, authorities said.
Butler firefighters quickly put out the fire that started shortly after 7 p.m. and no one was injured.
“It was very minor,” said Butler Fire Chief Nick Ban. “The guys carried out the dryer and ventilated the building.”
The Butler City Redevelopment Authority owns the building that houses five apartments, authorities said.
It was not immediately known how many tenants reside there. All of the residents were out by the time firefighters arrived, Ban said.
The only damage reported was to the dryer that caught fire.
Fire crews were there for less than an hour. All the tenants were allowed to return to their homes after the fire department cleared the scene.
A telephone call to the city redevelopment authority was not immediately returned this morning.
