Police probe man's death in Evans City

Mark Edwin Noah

EVANS CITY — Police are investigating if a purported drug dealer provided heroin to a borough man who later died of a possible overdose Tuesday night.

Mark E. Noah, 47, of Callery is in the Butler County Prison on $250,000 bail. He faces several felony drug charges.

Evans City/Seven Fields police arrested Noah just hours after Kenneth Stefanowicz’s death.

The 50-year-old Stefanowicz died just hours after he allegedly went to Noah’s home to buy drugs, according to court documents.

An autopsy Wednesday did not immediately determine a cause or manner of death, which is pending toxicology reports, said police Chief Joe McCombs.

“The case is under investigation,” McCombs said. He added that police planned to discuss their findings with a prosecutor for the Butler County District Attorney.

McCombs, however, declined further comment.

Stefanowicz died after he was found unresponsive in the basement of the Van Buren Street home where he lived with his mother, authorities said.
