Arthur Hillwig

Arthur W. Hillwig, 64, of East Brady passed away Saturday at UPMC St. Margaret surrounded by his family.

Born on Aug. 29, 1950, in East Brady, Art was the son of Dorothy R. King Hillwig and the late William A. Hillwig.

On Sept. 8, 1973, Art married the former Nancy S. Foust. She survives.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Art served for four years as a corpsman at several Naval hospitals during the Vietnam War era.

Art was a 1969 graduate of East Brady High School. He retired in 2006 from VA Butler Healthcare after 34 years. For the past seven years, he had been working for House Calls doing local construction.

In his earlier years, he loved to play softball and was a competition archer. He also coached Little League, high school baseball and youth football, and he was a football referee and baseball umpire. He also loved golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time at the American Legion Post 488, where he was the post commander. His favorite thing in the world was spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Raegan.

Art was a member of the East Brady United Methodist Church where he served on several committees.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Nancy Hillwig of East Brady; his two sons, Nathan S. Hillwig of East Brady and Bart W. Hillwig and his wife, Traci, of Elizabeth; his beloved granddaughter, Raegan Layne Hillwig of West Virginia; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Laird Mortimer of East Brady; and his niece, Darcy Neidrick and her husband, Bill, of Chicora. He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Art was preceded in death by his father, William A. Hillwig, and his sister, Cynthia Baughman.

Hillwig — The friends of Arthur W. Hillwig, who passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at theBuechele Funeral Home, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady, with an American Legion service at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the East Brady United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Peterson officiating.
