Mary J. Bishop
Mary J. Bishop, 93, of Butler passed away at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 10, 1921, in Rossiter, Pa., to the late Armour J. McFarland and Carrie (Pierce) McFarland.
Mary was a member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, deaconess and Sunday school teacher, and also attended the Tuesday morning Bible study, the Joan Griffith Circle and the Willing Workers. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Butler.
Mary worked at the Bantam Jeep factory during World War II, then worked in the Butler School District cafeteria.
Mary is survived by one daughter, Barbara J. Bishop of DuBois; one brother, Boyd A. McFarland and his wife, Grace, of San Antonio, Texas; three nieces; two nephews; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Bishop, who she married on June 7, 1940, and who passed away on Nov. 11, 1995; two brothers; and four sisters.
BISHOP — Friends of Mary J. Bishop, who died Monday, April 6, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Clark Sawyer of the Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating.
