Penn United site of Santorum's announcement
JEFFERSON TWP — Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum will announce his plans for a presidential campaign at Penn United Technologies, 799 N. Pike Road.
The announcement will be at 5 p.m. May 27, according to a press release issued Thursday by his political committee.
The Republican’s committee noted that Penn United is in Butler County where he spend much of his youth.
Santorum campaigned for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012, which was eventually won by Mitt Romney.
Santorum won 11 state primaries before he announced the suspension of his campaign that year.
Santorum served as a senator from 1995 to 2007. He was a U.S. Representative for four year before that.
Santorum was born in Virginia, but spent much of his childhood in the county.
He attended Butler Catholic School and Butler High School.
His parents worked at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs facility in Butler Township.
Republicans Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio each have announced their candidacy for the GOP nomination for president, while others are contemplating the decision.
