Catherine LeGrand

Catherine L. “Kitty” LeGrand, 89, formerly of North Osche Road, died early Tuesday morning, at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Kitty was a homemaker and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. She also was a member of the “Kitty and friends” card club.

Kitty was never one to sit back and do nothing, During World War II, she contributed to the efforts by working at Bantam as a bullet maker.

Kitty met the love of her life, “Red,” on an outing with her sister, Evie. Boy, after 51 years of marriage, what an adventure they had. After the evening news, they would go sit at the T-Bar with their friend, Annie, while she closed up shop. She always gave Red ideas for a new project. Lawn ornaments were the specialty. He would woodwork and she would paint. She would sit for hours at her dining room table putting puzzles together and anyone that happened to stop by would end up puzzling with her. If the puzzle was complete, she would box it up and down the cards would go. She loved to quilt and crochet, and she made sure that she made a beautiful, personalized quilt for each of her “kids.”

Unbeknownst to many, Kitty was the “Queen of Knickknacks.” She loved to go to the “Rum” in search of those priceless little tchotchkes. She loved to search the counter for unique necklaces and rings. One would never know in the way she wore them, that they were a dollar find.

Everyone who knew Kitty knew of her kind and welcoming heart. She made friends anywhere she went and was loved by so very many.
