Paul L. Smith

Paul L. Smith, 98, of West Sunbury passed away at 1:54 a.m. Tuesday at the Grove City Medical Center following a brief illness.

Paul was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Cherry Township, Butler County. He was the son of the late Carl C. Smith and the late Lucinda Stevenson Smith.

Paul proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He attended the United Church of the Nazarene. Paul retired in 1982 as a salesman for Electrolux with over 30 years of service.

Paul served his community as a member of the Moniteau School board during the 1960s and 1970s. He was an avid golfer up until the age of 93. His greatest love was his family and his Cherry Township farm. He raised cattle as a hobby and loved every minute of the experience for over 60 years.

Paul is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harold “Sim” (Elizabeth) Grossman of West Sunbury; four sons, Paul “Buck” L. (Judy) Smith Jr. of Bethel, Ohio, Ronald T. Smith of Slippery Rock, Robert S. (Loretta) Smith of West Sunbury and Stephen W. (Shelby) Smith of West Sunbury; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Sproull Smith, who died Dec. 17, 2000. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

SMITH — The family of Paul L. Smith, who died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the United Church of the Nazarene, Halston Road, West Sunbury.Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Britton of the United Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in the West Sunbury Union Cemetery.If desired, online condolences may be submitted at www.williamfyoungfh.com.
