Shirley A. McCarthy
Shirley A. McWilliams McCarthy, 82, of Butler passed away Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
She was born Nov. 15, 1932, in Butler to the late Robert C. Owens and Garda (Major) Owens.
Mrs. McCarthy was a 1950 graduate of Butler High School. Her first job was in the payroll department of Butler Armco. She then worked for the Salvation Army on Cunningham Street as the human services director for all human services programs.
Mrs. McCarthy was an avid reader, collecting books and donating books for sales at the Butler Public Library. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Red Bonnets and Bifocals Group. She was the past president of the Butler Public Library and was the treasurer of the Tenants Association of Park Manor. She enjoyed crocheting, macramé and plastic canvas crafts.
Mrs. McCarthy is survived by two daughters, Christina French and her husband, Donald, of Elkhart, Ind., and Cheryl McWilliams and her husband, Jeffrey, of Butler; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica and Gregory McWilliams and Nicole, Bryan, Evan and Josiah French; five great-grandchildren; six step-children, John, Michael and Patrick McCarthy, Debra Arnone, Beth Annett and Kim Miller; one sister, Mary Lou Wright of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard M. McWilliams, who she married Feb. 14, 1953, and who passed away March 17, 1990; and her second husband, John J. McCarthy, who she married June 20, 1998, and who passed away Feb. 26, 2003.

North St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.St. Paul's Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. at the church to recite the Rosary.Burial will take place in the St. Mary Cemetery, Herman.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Butler Public Library, 218 N.
