Donald G. Metz
Donald G. Metz, 75, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Don was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Wilbur Metz and the late Louella Sittig Metz.
Don was a 1958 graduate of Oliver High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as an Airborne Ranger with the 101st Airborne Division for two years in Germany.
He joined the Local Union 2235 in Pittsburgh as a pile driver in 1967.
Don enjoyed his grandchildren and the outdoors.
Don is survived by his wife, Joan Shields Metz, who he married, July 7, 1962; two daughters, Joy Smith and her husband, Z. Kent, of West Sunbury and Danene Leasher and her husband, Robert, of Zelienople; three grandchildren, Zena and Jordan Smith and Brett Zasadni; and one brother, Edward (Joanne) Metz of Grove City.
Don was preceded in death by one brother, Allan C. Metz.
METZ — The family of Donald G. Metz, who died Sunday, May 24, 2015, will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.A blessing service will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Nick officiating.
