Edward F. Smetana
Edward F. Smetana Jr., 65, of Butler passed away Thursday at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born July 11, 1949, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Bertha E. (Spiegel) Smetana and the late Edward F. Smetana Sr.
He retired from Ecolab in sales and services in 2010, following 35 years service.
He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.
He also was a member of the Northeastern Ohio Camaro Club in Kent, Ohio, and the Pace Camaro Club in Pittsburgh. He enjoyed model trains and especially being with his grandchildren.
He enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball and his granddaughter's cheerleading competitions.
He was a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen (Cornwell) Smetana, who he married Sept. 16, 1972; a son, Matthew (Brandi) Smetana of South Carolina; a daughter, Christina (Richard) Gavula of Butler; his mother, Bertha Smetana; three grandchildren, Brady, Lindsay and Elijah Matthew; and three brothers, Leonard (Pam) Smetana of Massachusetts, Charles (Mary Beth) Smetana of Mars and Richard Smetana of Allison Park.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Barbara Clarke; two sisters-in-law, Donna and Marie Smetana; and a brother-in-law, James Cornwell.
SMETANA — Family and friends of Edward F. Smetana Jr., who died Thursday, June 4, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian, with the Rev. James Murphy, pastor, officiating. Internment to follow at the Allegheny Memorial Cemetery in Ross Township.Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA. 15205.
