Elderly couple seriously hurt in assault at their house

BRADYS BEND TWP, Armstrong County — A man was held for observation Saturday after state police said he showed up naked at a neighbor’s home and attacked the elderly couple there.

The victims, both 80 years old, were hospitalized with serious injuries in the suspected attack shortly after 5 p.m.

The alleged assailant, 56-year-old Paul Chilcott, faces felony assault and charges.

State police said Chilcott went to the victims’ home on Bowser Road in Bradys Bend Township, which is next door to his home, and knocked on the door. When the man answered, he found the suspect standing naked on the porch.

The man said Chilcott was “acting very strange and “sweating profusely” and claiming “there was no god or hell,” according to a police report.

The homeowner got Chilcott a blanket and tried to calm him down. He invited the suspect into his house.

Then Chilcott allegedly attacked the man, repeatedly punching him in the face, the report said. The elderly man suffered a broken nose and other facial fractures.

Police said the man’s wife, who was in another room, heard the commotion and tried to defendant her husband. Chilcott is accused of attacking the woman, leaving her with head and facial injuries including cranial bleeding.

The attack stopped, police said, when the elderly man was able to get up and hit Chilcott over the head with a large vase.

The victims were taken to a Pittsburgh hospital. Their conditions were not known.

Police said Chilcott was under psychiatric care.
